Hello, I believe this is a species of lobelia. Could it be Lobelia spicata? Photo taken July 23 in Moshassuck River Preserve, Lincoln, RI. Thanks, as always!

    Answer

Dear sldz22, based on the shape of the leaf blades and the length of the hypanthium relative to the free portion of the sepals, it is more likely this is Lobelia inflata (bladder-pod lobelia). This is probably the most common species of the genus in New England. Best wishes.
