How does a large deciduous tree, like an 80 foot big-leaf maple, open its buds in the spring?

    Answer

Dear porphyry5, I'm not certain of your question's meaning. The winter buds of trees open based on hormonal cues and sap flowing from the roots to the buds (which initiates growth and expansion of the leaves and/or flowers contained within the winter buds). Temperature is an important cue the plants use to determine when winter dormancy will be broken. Best wishes.
