Hello, This aster is growing from a crack in my back steps. Wondering who it is. I'm vacillating between Symphyotrichium racemosum, Symphyotrichum laterifolia, and S. ericoides, but of course. it's probably none of these. Asters are so difficult! Thanks.

    Answer

Dear sldz22, I can only narrow this one down for you. It looks to be either Symphotrichum lateriflorum or S. racemmosum. I would need a measurement of the height of the involucre (the bracts below the series of ray flowers) or a clear image of the disk flowers so I can see how large the disk corolla lobes are. I'm sorry I can't do more.
