    Dear greenlore, yes, the plant you photographed looks much like our eastern (and non-native) species of Heliotropium. Unfortunately, because I am unfamiliar with the CA flora, I simply don't know if there are morphologically similar species that I would confuse with this genus. So, I erred on the side of caution.
