My hydrangeas in northwestern suburb of Illinois failed to produce flowers this season due to these weird changes in the buds. I also see these changes in my other plants. Are you able to tell me what’s going on with these plants?

    Answer

Dear fdm59, good evening. I'm unable to help you with your question. It does look like some type of infection or possibly an insect invasion that has caused stunted leaves and abortive flowers. I am not a plant pathologist so I cannot determine who this is with confidence. Sorry I cannot help.
