  • Question

Hello there, In researching Timothy grass I am having trouble deciphering exactly what is happening here... other than a flower or inflorescence is developing from the stem/sheath. What am I missing here? Thank you, SueLB

    Answer

Dear SueLB, the inflorescence (i.e., the array of spikelets) are partially hidden within the leaf sheath. Often, they will be well exserted beyond the tubular sheath once the plant is mature and the flowers are open (i.e., actively dispersing pollen). Let me know if that doesn't help. Best wishes.
