umbel
An indeterminate inflorescence that has a greatly reduced central axis, such that the flowers appear to originate from the same point, usually resulting in a flat- or round-topped inflorescence, with a sequence of flowering from outside to inside.

umbo umbo
A raised portion on the visible part of a scale of a seed cone.
umbraculiform
The shape of a corolla (or other structure) that has a basal tube and expands to become circular or nearly circular in outline distally with curved-ascending segments so that a convex area exists inside the corolla segments; umbrella-shaped.
unarmed
Without spines, prickles or thorns.
uncinate uncinate
Hooked at the tip (as in a hair).
undulate undulate
Wavy-margined but without prominent teeth.
unisexual unisexual
A flower that bears only carpels or stamens.
unrankable
Status is not known due to lack of information or conflicting information.
unranked
Status is not yet assessed.
UPL
Obligate Upland: plant may occur in wetlands outside of New England, but occurs almost always in non-wetlands in New England (probability > 99%).
urceolate urceolate
Urn-shaped and constricted just below the apex, such as a blueberry flower.
utricle utricle
A specialize type of achene that is a small, thin-walled, one-seeded fruit in which the outer mature layer (pericarp) is inflated or easily separable from the seed.
