Facts

Heart-leaved golden Alexanders is widely-distributed across North America, but very rare in New England, with a few occurrences in Connecticut only. It inhabits open or partially forested sites with dry to moist soils, often near river banks and often on calcareous substrates. The Connecticut populations are notable for occurring on Native American shell middens, and historic New England occurrences may also coincide with such middens. Shading, competition from native or invasive plants, inappropriate disturbances and habitat conversion are among the threats facing these populations.
