1. Commelina communis L. E
Asiatic dayflower. Commelina communis L. var. ludens (Miq.) C.B. Clarke • CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT. Fields, roadsides, forest edges, and disturbed lots. Commelina communis var. ludens is said to be recognized by its darker flowers, yellow antherodes with maroon centers, and relatively broader spathes (among other characters). Faden (2000) reported difficulty separating some material into this variety or var. communis. Therefore, var. ludens is considered a synonym of the typical variety.
