Facts
Sea-side amaranth is a federally threatened species of ocean foredunes and beaches down to the high tide line. It originally ranged from southern Massachusetts to South Carolina, but is now lost from most of this range, including the New England portion. Storm surge led to seedling mortality in experiments, but beach and dune stabilization projects may be one of the chief factors in the decline of this plant.
