Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Sighting: Rosa multiflora at 42.065, -72.749

by Kamereone on June 7 2022

Location notes: Multiple well established specimens with +-5 acre undeveloped area bordered by agricultural fields and industrial park. Most found along a drainage basin (former irrigation channel / canal tow path) but several found upland in recently cleared areas bordering woodlands.

Comments: Invasive, prickly, yet for a couple weeks a year pleasing to the eye. Disappointed to see them so well established in what had been a pretty pristine patch of forest - possibly introduced via storm-water run-off from the state highway and local DPW on the uphill-side of the fields, based on the decreasing maturity of individual specimens as you continue downwards, and the relatively few individuals located further from the drainage ditch.
