Sighting: Japanese barberry at Glen ave, North Falmouth, MA 02556

by jcarter@capecod.net on August 22 2016

Location notes: All along the side of the street near our Holly trees. I hate the thorny stuff!

Comments: I just found that it is a nice environment for those horrid ticks. And we have plenty of these deer ticks here. Here is a website which explains this. http://today.uconn.edu/2012/02/controlling-japanese-barberry-helps-stop-spread-of-tick-borne-diseases/ I have spent days and days cutting it and then digging up the roots if I can get to them thru the underbrush. Probably take another week to get it all, but thank goodness it is only in one area here. My picture is what I just cut, and have it sitting on the road so I can cut it all up and into a barrel.
