Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Sighting: Eurybia spectabilis at Pachaug State Forest

by BrianW on August 16 2015

Location notes: Near Nehantic Trail atop of Cutoff Rd.

Comments: The second year with twenty plus plants and many flowers at this location. Last year I apprised DEEP of its presence, along the edge of dry woods; spectabilis is on record for locations in Voluntown and Groton. This spot actually is the border shared by Voluntown and Griswold in the forest. I keep hoping it crosses the road only continue to find spectabilis in this one location. Metallic green bees were working on the disks and the petals here. They appear to comb the petals with their abdomens. (Third photo is from the same colony 23 August)
