Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Genus: Euphrasia — eyebright

The size and growth pattern of plants of Euphrasia can be quite variable within a species, depending upon differences in nutrient supply, length of the growing season, and height of surrounding vegetation (Downie and McNeill 1990). Therefore, some characters in the key such as internode length, number of nodes to the first flower, and number of branches can vary and should be used along with other characters like corolla color and calyx shape. Reference: Sell and Yeo (1970).
