Facts
Shepherd's-needle hails from Europe and Asia, and is invasive in North and South America and Australia. It is a rare visitor to New England, having been collected in ballast and waste sites in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It is readily identified by the dramatic needle-shaped beak on the fruit.
