Facts

Dalmatian toadflax, a widespread weed in North America, was introduced from the steppes of its native Eurasia in the late 1800s. It is a short-lived, perennial herb with yellow flowers and waxy, vaguley heart-shaped leaves arrayed on stems up to 90 cm (3 feet) tall. Its deep taproot and extensive lateral rooting system allow it to capture water efficiently, resprout after fire, and withstand the attempts of grazers (or gardeners) to pull it up; it can also reproduce vegetatively from buds off the roots.
