Facts

Big sagebrush is primarily a plant of the Great Basin of the American west, and in the east, is recorded only from fields and waste areas of Massachusetts. It is our only truly woody member of the genus, and as such can grow quite large -- up to 9 feet (3 m) tall in the heart of its range. Its soft, silvery-green leaves are highly aromatic and provide nutritious food to a range of wildlife including moose. Rich in oils, the leaves are highly flammable.
