Facts

Unlike most maples, Tatarian maple has leaves that are only subtly lobed. Its showy, upright infloresence makes this tree more ornamental than its related species. Its fruits (samaras) are often red and remain so at least a month before turning brown. Originally native to eastern Europe, this species is noted as a potentially invasive escape in Connecticut.
