Facts

Woodsia obtusa is unusual for New England members of this genus in that it does not have an articulated petiole. The other species have a slightly swollen node on the petiole that represents a detachment point for the leaf in the autumn of the year--as a result, the remnant petiole bases tend to be all of similar length. Because Woodsia obtusa lacks this node its petiole remains are of many different lengths.
