Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Genus: Osmundastrum — royal fern

This is one of two genera in the Osmundaceae family, which can be distinguished from each other by the structure and appearance of their fertile leaves. In this genus, all leaflets of the fertile leaves have sporangia. They are orange-brown in color when mature. Some keys do not recognize this genus, instead placing its species in Osmunda.
