Facts
Native to Asia and Europe, and introduced in large areas of North America, basket willow is a shrubby willow with a densely-branched, rounded form. The upper side of the stems tend to turn purple (a protection against bright sun), and the leaves turn dark purple to brown in the fall. Several cultivars with blue-green leaves and a pleasing, compact growth form have been developed for planting in wetter garden sites.
