Facts

Three-lobed coneflower is native to North America, but not to New England, where it is a popular garden plant. It has been collected in the wild in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.

Sometimes confused with

Rudbeckia subtomentosa:
chaff obtuse to acute at apex, minutely downy-pubescent near apex, rays 2–6 cm long, and plants perennial from rhizomes that produce leafy offshoots (vs. R. triloba, with chaff tipped by a glabrous cusp, rays mostly 1–2 cm long, plants biennial or infrequently short-lived perennial, lacking rhizomes and leafy offshoots).
