Facts
The very large leaves, clustered at the ends of long branches in the crown, give the Umbrella-tree its common name. This magnolia also has large, white flowers blooming in April to May, that mature into spires of fruits that split open to reveal seeds with bright red coverings (arils). This species is native to the southeastern U. S., but regarded as introduced in New England where it has naturalized from plantings in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
