Facts
Native to the Mediterranean region of Europe, woolly safflower-thistle is primarily a weed of pastures and rangeleands in the United States. However, it is only occasionally encountered in New England. It is closely related to the important oilseed crop safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) so biocontrol is not an option for this weed.
