Facts

Carolina meadow-foxtail is considered native to most of North America, but not to New England, where it has been collected in Massachusetts. It is a persistent weed of crops in some areas.

Alopecurus aequalis:
awn of lemma inserted on the keel just below the midpoint, straight, and nor or barely exserted beyond the glumes (vs. A. carolinianus, with awn of lemma inserted on the keel well below the midpoint, bent near base, and prominently exserted beyond the glumes).
Alopecurus geniculatus:
plants perennial, usually rooting from the lower nodes, and anthers 1.3-2 mm long (vs. A. carolinianus, plants annual, usually not rooting from the lower nodes, and anthers 0.3-1 mm long).
