Genus: Ophioglossum — adder's-tongue fern
Each Ophioglossum plant has a single, undivided sterile leaf. On fertile plants the spores are borne in sporangial clusters embedded in a single, fleshy stem above the sterile leaf on the same stalk. There is only one species in this genus in New England.
