Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Sighting: common thistle at Orrington, Maine

by jlhaycock on July 27 2020

Location notes: On the side of a not-too-often traveled dirt road. Right alongside the road, and this was the only one there.

Comments: You can't tell from the pictures - but this was a very tall plant! I took the photos out the window of my Jeep, and had to angle up! Easily over 6 ft. tall. [The stems have spiny-margined wings of green tissue, which Cirsium altissimum lacks, this is Cirsium vulgare--admin.]
