Native Plant Trust: Go Botany Discover thousands of New England plants

Sighting: American beech at ESF-Ranger School, Wanakena NY

by Bernardo on September 13 2018

Location notes: Reservoir Rd. Near trail 10. Found growing from a stump, the small tree is approximately 4.5ft tall. Healthy (not affected by fungus, or blight). 2 other small trees located with in 50 ft. No existing parent tree, to be found..

Comments: If you come to our school, please do not harm the little tree. It is the only one on the campus that is wild (not planted). Our trails are available to the public. The tree was identified during the day, the photos I took on 9/13/18 at 12:25am. [You've photographed American beech, Fagus grandifolia, examine the sinuses between the teeth of your leaf and those of the chestnut image and you will see they are different--admin.]
